Yeah, uh, I was looking for a straightforward article about the resurgence of the Western and what I read was mostly well thought out however your liberal commentary, which you're entitled to because this is your blog, really does leave a bad taste in my mouth. I am not conservative by any means, and your take on the cowboy-indian influence of film makes sense, but come on... Don't be ignorant. Nothing irks me more than when an author inserts his political agenda into an article, especially when page after page has been insightful, helpful material. Blech.

im sorry i didnt have time to read the whole article, but i book marked it so i can read it later. what i see left out is clint eastwoods"unforgiven". i mean at that time, 92-93ish, the western truly was dead. the movie went on to win a shit load of oscars. best picture, best director,(clint) best supporting actor, gene hackman, who can go wrong with him? i think clint may have won best actor that year too. so, a genre is never dead, it just needs to be done right...

Why in the world are you spreading such hateful ideas and pretending like everyone thinks like you? You are not very well-educated or informed if you have to make accusations that all Americans are assholes if they agree with George W. He is not our best president, but he is by far not the worst. At least someone took the initiative to try to end the violence in a depressed and socially terrorized Middle East. We will never beat the hatred, but damn, those who LOVE this world are going to fight for what's right. You guys would be pissed if WW2 was going on now and we were trying to end Hitler's regime. Live in your silly "writer" world, ignore the facts, and just hate anyone in a cowboy hat. Yeah. Great life. I bet your mama's REAL proud.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly DVD commentary is pretty much exactly what you posted here. Why don't you start posting your own original ideas, you plagiarizing snake-in-the-grass?! ...You know I'm just messing, Koo. You've been one of the most insightful people I've known since grade school. But the timing of Leone's spaghetti westerns with Vietnam was certainly no coincidence, that much is true. Leone grew up in socialist Italy worshipping American ideals but was appalled by what he saw when US soldiers finally occupied Italy during the war. He found that Americans are assholes too, just like everyone else. Current methods of distributing American justice are no different than the methods employed by US soldiers sixty years ago. Westerns (especially Leone's) are layered with varying degrees of this type of justice. On the surface, the "good guys" are stoic and unafraid of the bad guys, the harsh environment around them, and sometimes even death itself. But as those layers get pealed away, it's easy to see that the "good guy" is often an insensitive, cold blooded prick who's merely out to satisfy his own greedy ambitions. What does Clint Eastwood do in The GB&U? He's rude, arrogant, and even in the end when he's got what he was looking for, he STILL hangs Eli Wallach one last time, just for kicks. What a prick.
