Seen: Doc Ellis and the LSD No-No

Currently airing at the Sundance Film Festival is the animated short Doc Ellis and the LSD No-No, the presumably true story of the late Doc Ellis pitching a no-hitter for the 1970 Pittsburgh Pirates… while high on LSD. In the doping era it’s nice to see a baseball player on what would normally be considered performance de-enhancing drugs — except they produced the opposite result. Apparently baseball is just not a sport to play straight — Ellis also proclames “over 90%” of players were using stimulants in his era.

Animated by James Blagden. The rest of the 2010 Sundance shorts are also available on YouTube (conveniently compiled at Short of the Week).
