DSLR shooter Vincent Laforet recently posted an update announcing his massive gear page -- and I mean "massive," this guy has a ton of camera equipment (this picture is not of a DSLR, I realize). One reason Laforet created this extensive catalog is because it's chock full of affiliate links, and it should theoretically make him a decent amount of money. There's been some fuss about this, and predictably so -- people always seem to assume that making money on the internet is somehow disingenuous -- but if you're going to take the time to catalog and post everything, it follows that there should at least be a chance at remuneration for the time you spent doing so. There are a lot of affiliate links in my DSLR Guide, after all, but at no point did I say to myself, "I'm going to get rich doing this!" Instead, affiliate links are an organic way to monetize a site -- more organic even than ads. Anyway, here's Vincent's video highlighting his gear:

My take on it is, if you're not into the technical stuff, don't watch it. If you can't afford the stuff, don't buy it. But I like seeing what people are working with on the high-end because when it comes time to mount a larger production, it's nice to know what's out there -- even if you don't buy anything via the affiliate links. Hell, when it comes down to it, if I was concerned primarily with selling stuff via my affiliation with B&H Photo, I wouldn't even link to Vincent's post because I'm just funneling interested customers his way! But we're all in this together and, you know, sharing is caring and all that. Plus, I'm pretty sure Vincent and I are going to be on a panel together next month.

Vincent has a ton of gear and is well-established in the photography world. I, on the other hand, am a broke independent filmmaker trying to launch a feature and build an audience. So you can always buy stuff via the Support No Film School! page anyway...
