Lynny-lens-system-224x250The tilt-shift effect is nothing new -- if you've ever been a large format photography shooter you know how interesting it can look. It wasn't until the Lensbaby line of lenses that tilt-shift really became widely used in everyday photography. DSLR video, on the other hand, brought a whole new group of users to the beautiful effects that can come from these lenses. There is an interesting project on Kickstarter right now for a tilt-shift lens called the Lynny Lens System. It's nearing the end of its crowdfunding campaign and it's aiming to be a cheaper alternative to Lensbaby. Check out more details as well as a sample video below.

Here is some sample footage:

This is a demonstration of the entire system in action (the video image below is flipped as Cameron points out on the Kickstarter site):

While this doesn't look like it's going to be a perfect lens (though if you're using any of these lenses for video you're probably not looking for a perfectly sharp image), it's definitely going to be cheap. If buy one during the Kickstarter campaign, one of these can be had for under $100. If you need this effect for a video you're shooting, there are definite advantages to this system, and the cost of entry is a bit lower than if you were to get something from the Lensbaby line. At the very least, it's pretty inspiring to see someone so young with this much ambition. This isn't the first product Cameron has designed -- so regardless of the outcome of the Kickstarter campaign, it's likely we haven't seen the last of his inventions.
