Rust-and-bone-screenplay-224x149As the awards season goes into overdrive, we are seeing more and more (and more) screenplays available online for (legal) download from the studios and specialty arms. Most recently, two more screenplays have appeared after their limited release debuts here in the U.S. over the past two weeks: the French-language Rust and Bone (De Rouille et d'Os) from Sony Pictures Classics and the Tom Stoppard-penned adaptation of the novel Anna Karenina from Focus Features.

When you take a look at these screenplays, there are a few things you should keep in mind. For Rust and Bone, the screenplay has been translated into English from the original French, which is nice because I can't read French. You will also note the formatting of the screenplay is slightly different than the standard screenplay format used here in the U.S. For Anna Karenina, the PDF looks like it was created from a file that will be used for the printed publication of the screenplay, which will be apparent when you see the wide side margins and the serif fonts. In other words, don't use the format for the Anna Karenina screenplay as a guide for formatting your own scripts and ignore the page count and page breaks.

As always, please use these screenplays for your own educational purposes. Also, don't wait to download these screenplays as we never know when they might go offline (ahem, Fox Searchlight).

Do you find the English translation of Rust and Bone useful or do you think something is lost in translation? Also, do you find the screenplay for Anna Karenina helpful even when it is not in the standard screenplay format? Let us know in the Comments.
