Amour-haneke-screenplay-224x146Michael Haneke provided a sober anchor during the Screenwriter Roundtable video we featured last week, making no apologies for creating a film that The Hollywood Reporter executive editor Stephen Galloway said shattered his screening guest who had recently experienced a loss similar to that depicted in the writer/director's Cannes 2012 Palme d'Or winner Amour. Now that Amourhas opened will open Dec. 19 in limited release here in the U.S., Sony Pictures Classics has graciously made the screenplay available for download for your consideration.

Here's the trailer for Amour:

And here's Haneke's views on depicting Nazis in the films Downfall and Schindler's List from The Hollywood Reporter roundtable interview (see the full video here):

Sony Pictures Classics has slowly rolled out its award contenders' screenplays, most recently offering Jacques Audiard & Thomas Bidegain's Rust and Bone screenplay for download. With Haneke's two Palme d'Or wins in three years (The White Ribbon in 2009) and his previous film garnering Oscar nominations, the specialty studio hopes to have similar success with Amour. Now that Amourhas debuted is set to debut stateside on Dec. 19, we're pleased to discover Sony Pictures Classics is presenting its screenplay for our consideration, available for download at the link below:

As always, please use this screenplay for your educational purposes only. Also, don't wait to download the screenplay as we never know when Sony Pictures Classics will take the screenplays offline.

If you've missed the previous award-contending screenplays available for download this season, you can find them here, here, here, and here (but not here).

Does Haneke's condemnation of other filmmakers that he believes have infused their films about Nazi Germany with entertainment affect your view of his own films? Let us know in the Comments.
