Firefox-flicks-video-contest-224x110With mobile devices pervading our daily lives, and even evolving the method with which we capture and distribute video (apps like Vine are getting lots of hype), it seems as though Mozilla has selected a pretty timely theme this year for its global video competition Firefox Flicks. So, if you're looking to make a video that is 60 seconds or less, get said video judged by celebrity judges, and win great prizes, then the 2013 Firefox Flicks wants you to "Get Mobilized!"

Here's what Firefox Flicks has to say about the theme of the competition:

The world's gone mobile. Getting mobilized means getting more connected to one another - so we can all go further. We're bringing the values that Firefox has always championed in the browser to the devices that the next billion people will use as their primary gateway to the Web. With that in mind, the 2013 Firefox Flicks theme is "Get Mobilized." That's where you come in: help us inspire people to get mobilized for individual and collective progress.

Despite having them in the past, there aren't any categories this year. You can make anything from a live-action comedic video on your phone to a stop motion animation action movie on a 3D camera. It's up to you. The judges are Panavision's Robert "Bob" Harvey, Black List Founder Franklin Leonard, Producers Shauna Robertson (Superbad, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express) and Couper Samuelson, and Edward Norton (yes -- that Edward Norton) who's leading the whole thing. Videos will be judged on quality of shooting, editing, and how closely they align with the creative brief, which you can find here.

Now, let's talk prizes:

Grand Prize: The winner (or winning team) will fly to Los Angeles to work with producer (and Flicks judge) Couper Samuelson and representatives from Panavision to professionally produce their winning entry using professional equipment.

Regional Prizes: A $5,000 top prize and $2,500 for the runner-up will go to the top two flicks from each of the contest regions: Latin America, North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

People's Choice Awards: All flicks submitted by July 31 are eligible. The 3 that earn the most votes in August win a Firefox Flicks swag bag and will be posted on our channels for millions to see.

Early Entry Awards: There will be multiple chances to win $1,000 for submitting your flick early. Enter in time for the film festival deadlines listed below to be eligible:

  • April 3 - BAFICI, Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • July 5 - Nowe Horyzonty, Wrocław, Poland
  • July 5 - Cinemalaya, Manila, Philippines

Last year's winner, Lee Sang Woo, gives an interview about his experience making his winning video "I'm falling in love with Firefox" and his experience with the competition.

This is Woo's winning video from last year's competition.

Another cool thing is that you can submit as many 60 second videos as you want. And this doesn't have to be a lonely creative experience either! You can have a production team of up to 3 people. The deadline for all videos is 11:59 p.m. PST on July 31st (7:59 a.m. GMT on August 1st).
