When it comes to giving users more functionality with their products Atomos has always stayed steadily on top of industry trends and listened to user feedback. With its latest update, the Shogun Inferno will start shipping with 4Kp60 HDR recording capabilities. 

As you may already know, the all-in-one monitor is outfitted with a bright 1500nit display that combines high frame rate recording and playback. Shogun Inferno can record video over HDMI and SDI directly from the camera's sensor to 4:2:2 10-bit ProRes or DNxHR files up 4K at 60p or HD at 240p. If you're looking to record RAW, you can do so over SDI up to 4K at 30p directly to CDNG, ProRes or DNxHR.

With the announcement of the new HDR recording feature, you'll be able to capture ARRI and Panasonic HDR RAW recordings with the addition of expanded PQ & HLG compatibility for playback to HDR screens. As you could imagine, Jeromy Young, CEO and co-founder of Atomos is quite happy saying,

Atomos and G-Technology also announced a partnership where they will be rolling out a new line of co-branded gear. Five products are being released, four of which directly impact footage transfer. The Atomos Master Caddy 4K, the Atomos Master Caddy HD, the ev Series Reader Atomos Master Caddy Edition, and the ev Series CFast 2.0 Edition, as well as a new portable SSD, G-Drive ev Raw.

Yes, kind of a mouthful. Basically, the Master Caddy system has been designed to integrate with G-Technology products. The Master Caddy 4K or HD is inserted into the Atomos recorder prior to footage capture then is transferred into the ev Series Reader Atomos Master Caddy Edition. The Caddy Edition then acts as an adapter allowing users to install the Master Caddy into G-Technology products to transfer into storage.

While the Master Caddy Edition is meant to be a standalone device running on bus power or inserted into a docking system, it does have USB-C Gen 2 connectivity for speeds up to 540 MB/second. 

The Atomos Master Caddy by G-Technology is available in September with the following configurations:

  • 512GB $249.95, 
  • 1TB $349.95

HDD-based version

  • 1TB $99.95

The ev Series Reader Atomos Master Caddy Edition will be available in September for $99.95.

If Atomos didn't announce enough they will also be releasing AtomFlex 4Kp60 cables that are compatible with the latest HDMI 2.0 standard for 4Kp60 & HDR recording and playback. They'll have three different models to choose from in two different lengths, 30cm coiled (60cm extended) and 40cm (80cm extended) at the end of September.
