C300 Mii Drops $4,000! Interesting.

What do you guys think about the C300 Mii dropping to $11,999 on Adorama and B&H (probably elsewhere, too)?
Pretty nuts...it's a lovely camera, but still no 60p 4k.
I got my finger on the button for Varicam LT but this dropping 4,000 bucks is pretty crazy!
Chime in if you're as bored as I am and want to have a somewhat pointless but fun discussion about gear :p.

Hmm I wonder what camera they are prepping to release... C1000? Isn't their 8k camera coming out soon? http://nofilmschool.com/2015/09/canon-developing-8k-uhd-cinema-camera-12...

C1000 used to be a chain of supermarkets in the Netherlands :-p
That alone would make it a funny name, although C1000 sounds cheaper than C100, because that is how the D-series works...

Could be they are responding to competitive pressure from RED Raven and Scarlet-W.

nope. more like sony. RED can't compete with either companies in engineers, reliability(even thought they've gotten slightly better) or cheap and fast turn around service repairs.

Or the Panasonic Varicam LT with it's very effective 800 / 5000 ISO dual shooting mode.

The Varicam LT is like $28K by the time you put it all together. i don't see how it's even in the same bracket as the C300 II. Seems more like an F5/55 or Arri Amira competitor to me.

Yeah I think it is more in those range of cameras but you can get an up and running package for it at about 18k without the bells and whistles. Body, battery, card. Of course you'd want more than that :p. But after using it quite a bit it does seem to be in that higher end category like a Sony F55 or Arri Mini Alexa/Amira.

Yeah I definitely think it's trying to go against all those systems. Not getting the c300 buzz they were hoping because I think there is just way too much great competition now.
Ultimately, image and features wise, Varicam LT tops the list for me. I'm actually waiting on the paperwork for one. At that price point, the image you get is just insane. Along with decent slomo and interchangeable mounts and all that. But I think the image is that of a much higher caliber in the arri range.

I am sure that the Varicam LT will only get better as Panasonic delivers new firmware upgrades over the next year.

I definitely believe that! I moreso meant "buzz" when it was released, but at this price point now I am sure it'll become much more popular.

Totally agree, I read already some amazing updates for it coming soon. Can't wait to get my hands on it and start working with it again.

RAW recording should produce an amazing image provided you can handle the data-rates that go along with this. ( I've heard that Varicam LT RAW should be here very soon )

Canon lowered the price on the C100 Mark ii as well. It's now $4000.

Which was a very smart move on Canon's part.

It use to be that I saw a lot of C300s around being used by doc shooters and independents. Now every time I turn around I see mostly Sony FS7s, they're everywhere, and an occasional C300, still haven't seen anyone with a C300 Mark II. I'd like to have one but would hope to see it drop another $2K. At $9,999.00 I'd be real tempted to buy one.

I'd love to get one now, although maybe it's foreshadowing a C100 III release with internal 4k without the bells and whistles of the c300 ii? That'd be sweet.

In september they're announcing the C700 according to rumors
