Editing A7s XAVC-S on the iPad

I was amazed to find that with the right settings, my iPad air can easily import and cut the Sony XAVC-S footage from my Sony A7s. It's easy to set up, too.

Rather than ramble about it, I will just point to this video: https://vimeo.com/105277558

I can see this being really useful for journalists or people who don't have time for a lot of post audio and colour work anyway, and need to travel with small kit (A7s and iPad Air). I use Pinnacle on the iPad rather than iMovie because it supports 24P and a lot of other nice things.

This is actually very interesting. My thought process is, is it actually faster to do a same-day edit this way than with a laptop (which has a keyboard) and mouse? I feel like I would be slower poking at a screen with my fingers than using both hands to actively navigate and edit clips.
Still, definitely neat to see new post-production avenues and ways of doing things.

After using this on a project, I figure this method of editing is more of a novelty until some better software comes out. Great for home movies, but for a 1hr event video, well, Pinnacle stopped working properly, and I had a lot of crashes. I would love to see Apple make good on a "pro" companion app to Final Cut Pro, one that lets you at least edit proxies on the go (in the bus, or in the field if you are some sort of news-gathering reporter) and upload or reconnect back home on your big mac.

No, I don't know of any Android video editing software, but I think a really good option right now is to run Adobe Premiere on a Microsoft Surface. That is one serious tablet, way more "pro" than Apple's new iPad.
