Ideas for a short to test new light & camera kit?

I've just received a new Camera and Lighting kit and would like to do some tests this weekend. I've managed to get a few friends together but I need an idea. I know this essentially defeats the point of a filmmaker but the film will not be going on any website/ portfolio, it's simply so we can test the kits. Any basic ideas?

Do it 48 Hour Film style.

Pick one of the following genres out of a hat:

Comedy
Dark Comedy
Drama
Film Noir
Fish Out of Water
Horror
Road Movie
Romance
Sci Fi
Silent Film
Thriller/Suspense
Time Travel

Then pick one of the following characters out of a hat:

Bitsy Ballou, Advice Columnist
Ignazio del Fuego, Cab Driver
Hugh Simon, Bouncer
Paul DeGala, Substitute Teacher
Mary Collins, Marriage Counselor
Debbie Hebb, Insurance Agent
Donald Miller, Musician
Betty Conrad, Poet

Pick on of the following lines of dialog from a hat:

"Is that the best you've got?"
"I was lied to and very much deceived."
"When you say it like that, it's almost poetry."
"Be careful what you wish for."
"You look so beautiful in the dark."
"What happened to the spaceship?"
"My limp would be more justified if I were injured in some way."
"I think I had some friends at some point."
"Why don't you just cut off my arm?"

Pick one of the following props out of a hat:

Large Suitcase
Snow Globe
Electric Fan
Mismatched Argile Socks
Poker Chip
Manilla Folder
Empty Cardboard Box
Broken Picture Frame

Boom. Now you have a genre, character, prop and a line of dialog. Let your imagination carry you the rest of the way.

I'm an avid redditor so I'm going to plug http://www.reddit.com/r/producemyscript! There are a bunch of really great submissions on there and you can even request scripts. Some of them are eh but I've found some gold!

I have exactly the same theme for all my camera tests:

"a small short about a man who's date is late and then she cancels.

The spot is by Hudson - first the actor is happy anticipating the date but as the time passes he grows concerned all they way until she texts that she cant make it."

Call time is an hour before the sunset, and as the sun hits the horizon we start rolling. An hour into it you'll have pitch black night and at least 10 takes.

Good luck!
