iPhone 6 exporting 60fps clips

Found out an interesting aspect to the iPhone 6.

When you film in 60fps mode and export it through messaging OR email, it compresses it down to 30fps.

I talked to apple support for a hour over it, they were baffled too. Best they can guess is that the phone does the compression to save on the file size.

I'm interested to know how it is processing it.

Yeah, I would guess that they’re doing it to save on file size, since the majority of people sending a video like that wouldn’t realize what they’re doing and would only need it sent in 30fps.

It would be interesting to know if it’s just dropping frames or if it’s blending frames though. I wonder if you could do a side-by-side comparison and see if the frames in the 60fps original and the 30fps copy look different.

Your prob gonna have to export via usb directly to your mac or pc like you would do when transferring .wav files from garageband on the ipad to a DAW on your laptop. If that makes sense. Sorry for the producer/filmmaker reference.
