Short Film Feedback

Hey folks,

So myself and my friend, Dan, just recently completed work on a short horror film we're in the midst of submitting to different festivals. We've already been accepted into one, but before we begin submitting to others, we're looking for some audience feedback from some serious filmmakers like yourselves!

This was a two-man project from beginning to end, with one of us doubling as the lead actor. We shot on the Panasonic GH4 and edited in Premiere Pro.

Another fun fact: Because this was a two-man project, we chose to take things a step further and challenge ourselves. With Dan being an Audio Engineer, we decided not to utilize any on-camera and/or location audio. Every single sound you hear in the from birds chirping to floors creaking to musical score and dialogue was done entirely in post-production from our home studio.

Let me know what you guys think, and we'd be happy to return the favor on feedback!

Thanks so much for checking out our film. Hope you guys enjoy!

Hello!
Thank you for sharing it with us.
Overall, I loved seeing it, there was a couple of perfectly timed jarring moments. The cinematography/lighting is praiseworthy and so is the overall directing and pacing. The only thing for me, is that maybe the narrative was a little predictable. In my view, this is the most common and riskiest aspect of this genre. I believe that it could be re-edited in ways which could add more complexity. The auditory sensation is splendid, I like how often I am hearing more than one layer of sound, travelling horizontally and vertically along the timeline in terms of noise/sound, maybe this is just what the story needs... more layers. I like the catch at the end and it’s amazing that you guys did all this on your own, keep it up and best of luck… Chapeau bas!

Hello!

Thanks so much for watching! Even better to hear you enjoyed it! The sound design for the film is what I personally believe is it's greatest strength. I do agree with the predictability of the narrative. It was something Dan and I very much discussed amongst ourselves prior to shooting.

In the end, we did decide to keep the narrative simple in favor of building tension and fitting in as many jumps, jolts, and scares we could within the confines of the 10-minute runtime (all while avoiding "gimmicky" scare tactics).

Again, thanks so much for watching!
