I own nothing and no pretty much zip about camera and gear. I want to start shooting short films as well as a "The Office" type comedy. I would also like to use it for photography. Again I have a budget of 2K. Please help.:)
"The Office" uses a lot of fast punch-in zooms that are hard to create on anything other than an ENG style video camera with a parfocal zoom lens. For this style of work I would look at an affordable ENG camera like the Sony CX900 or AX100.
Otherwise, for general Indie film projects I would look for a good DSLR camera with a kit lens to start ( good lenses will blow your budget ), and then spend the rest on lights and audio gear.

The photography part means definitely you want a DSLR. I will get downvoted by everyone who hates Canon, but...starting from scratch with $2k, you could do well with a Canon t5i (or t4i or t3i), a Tamron 28-75 2.8, and a Tokina 11-16 2.8. And have a few bucks left over.
Whatever you get, start reading like crazy. Buying the camera is 10% of the battle. Good luck!

You probably could get a used GH3 these days for cheap. Grab a zoom H5n or H6n and a basic shotgun mic. A tripod too, two sd cards (one for the camera, one for the Zoom), and you can DIY the lights to conserve cash.
