Thanks for Reading!
If you found this guide helpful — or if you have any corrections or suggestions — please let me know in the comments below. As I said up top, please buy your DSLR gear via the Amazon and B&H Photo links in the guide — it doesn’t cost you anything to do so, but it might help me get my hands on some more gear. It’s funny, people ask me when I’ll be posting the follow focus section, and my response is, “when I finally get one!”
Of course, there’s another way you can help me get my hands on a follow focus — back my feature film project, Man-child! We will certainly be using a follow focus on the film…
My entire life has been leading up to this point, so if you’ve benefitted from this DSLR guide, please consider returning the favor! More info below.

I don’t know Ryan – but I want to encourage anyone, who is halfway as thankful for and impressed by this incredibly informative guide as I am (and the generosity to make all of it available for free), to send a few dollars in his direction. It is amazing to me that someone invests this much time and expertise for the “common good”.
Thank you! -
John, Peter, J, Alex, and Nikolas — thanks so much for the kind words. It means a lot to me to hear this guide is helpful!
And thank to those that have donated — I’m working on a much-improved (updated!) PDF to send your way.

Will there be any further updates to the guide? Missing are the details regarding Magic Lantern for the T2i/550D or T3i for that matter. Also no mention of the low-cost portable dolly’s or follow focus devices such as the D|Focus.

A fabulous introductory guide to the world of DSLR filming. You’ve put a huge amount of work into this, and the result is very useful indeed.
It’s given me lots to think about, but has helped me understand just what is needed to turn a DSLR into a video camera.
Thinking time is now needed.
Best,
Alex
