SmallHD and Teradek made quite a splash when they announced a new line of wireless production monitors, the 13” 1303 HDR Bolt Sidekick (also referred to as the 13RX) and the 17” 1703 P3X Bolt Sidekick (also referred to as the 17RX).

We chat with Teradek's Greg Smokler about why filmmakers should be excited about this new line, namely how each monitor has a built-in Teradek Sidekick II receiver.  This was a particularly exciting feature when it first came out a year ago in the 703 Bolt, but it's now increasingly obvious that SmallHD plans to roll this out throughout their entire line of monitors.  By integrating the receiver into the monitor, it makes cabling easier (no need to run power and SDI cables), it makes the unit look more streamlined and makes it easier to pack up, and it saves you have to run a separate battery por power supply.  While it made sense to roll it out to handheld monitors first, moving it up to the larger monitors, which are also generally pulling in wireless signals, is a smart move.
