With some setbacks, Panasonic and Atomos have released firmware updates to allow the Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1H to record RAW externally. The S1H receives firmware version 2.1 and Atomos has released beta firmware 10.52 for the Ninja V.

The firmware was supposed to be originally released May 25th, but was delayed due to a technical issue. With the Atomos firmware in beta form, the company is asking anyone interested in downloading it to email them for the software. The one caveat is that Atomos is currently not supporting the Super 35mm anamorphic mode yet.

Supported RAW formats:

  • 5.9K (5888 x 3312) full-frame 16:9 at 23.98, 25, 29.97fps 12-bit
  • 4K (4128 x 2176) Super 35mm 17:9 at 23.98, 25, 29.97, 50, 59.94fps 12-bit
  • 3.5K (3536 x 2656) Super 35mm anamorphic 4:3 at 23.98, 25, 29.97, 50fps 12-bit (not available)

The familiar shooting functions including waveform monitor, vectorscope, zebra, and others can be used with RAW output. While shooting ProRes RAW, the Ninja V V-Log or Rec 709 can be selected during Live View. Additionally, Panasonic has released a new LUT designed for the Ninja V that allows you to color match the grading with V-Log/V-Gamut2.

The final release of the Atomos software that will include 3.5K anamorphic is expected to arrive in August. You can download the Panasonic software here and find the Atomos release here
