We’ve been covering screenwriting software a bit on here, and plenty of you have probably heard of Celtx – but what you might not know is that Celtx has a program called Seeds that seeks to give back to the filmmaking community in the form of grants. It’s not often that you see a free software company (excluding the mobile versions) giving money away for nothing. Here is a video explaining the program: More »
Writing a script on the go has been hit-or-miss. Final Draft still does not have a dedicated screenwriting application on any mobile device (though a reader exists). If you’ve been looking for an easy way to write a script on your phone or tablet and quickly take it to your desktop – and vice versa – then John August and Stu Maschwitz may have created just what you’re looking for with the introduction of Fountain: More »
My daily sojourn to the coffee shop to work on my feature screenplay — of which I’m happy to report I’ve just completed a third draft — is often accompanied by the sight of other folks working on their own script. I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which is probably the Aspiring Screenwriter capital of New York, so it’s a common sight. There’s also an online community allowing realtime collaboration and feedback, and there are a number of ongoing screenwriting contests as well. Scripped is free to use, with upgraded features available as a paid subscription. Here’s a look at it in action: More »
In the NoFilmSchool newsletter — which you should subscribe to, if you’re not already, because it includes exclusive content not contained on this site — I recommend beginning screenwriters check out the free screenwriting software Celtx. You won’t find many pros using it (with Final Draft being the industry standard), but you can’t beat it for the price. Now, thanks to FilmmakerIQ there’s also a huge compilation of training resources for the screenwriting program. More »
As a desktop screenwriting application, Celtx has never threatened industry stalwarts Final Draft and Movie Magic Screenwriter, despite its advantage (in terms of adoption) of being free. However, it seems the just-released mobile version of Celtx is ahead of the game instead of playing catch-up. “Digital rebel” Stu Maschwitz kick off his post on Celtx with the following: More »
