Just a few short months ago, it was announced that the Blackmagic Cinema Camera would be receiving a Micro 4/3 lens mount option alternative to its original Canon EF mount. Granted, for those of us still waiting on the BMCC to ship, a few short months is no stretch of time to merely shrug off — particularly when the mount announced was to be a “passive” or “dumb” one, meaning electronic control would not be supported for smart MFT lenses. There’s been speculation that this would change — and given Blackmagic’s recent addition to the consortium of companies aligned with the official Micro 4/3 standard, this speculation seems less outlandish than ever. Metabones Gets Some Competition from Cheaper Canon EF to Sony NEX Smart Lens Adapter

If you’re new to the Sony NEX lens mount but you’ve been a Canon user in the past, there’s a good chance you’ve still got some Canon lenses sitting in your bag. To actually get those lenses on a Sony NEX camera (like the FS100 or FS700) and control them right from the camera, you’ll need a smart adapter like the Metabones EF to NEX. While it’s one of the more popular smart adapters for the NEX mount, at $400 it’s going to cost you. There is a challenger coming to town being sold by R.J. Camera — and at a lower price — with claims of similar performance and full control of your Canon lenses. CheesyCam was able to get a look at one of these new adapters and actually test it out. LockCircle Announces PrimeCircle, a Cinemod for Zeiss ZF and X-Circle, a Semi-Permanent F to EF Mount Adapter

I am partial to Nikon lenses, and I’ve often recommended them to many people for cost alone, but if you’ve got some money to spend, Zeiss certainly makes one of the best Nikon mount lenses. If you choose to cinemod them, you’ve got the next best thing to a PL mount lens. LockCircle, maker of the LockPort and the LockCircle Body Cap, is getting into the cinemodding game with some interesting products. The first is X-Circle, a semi-permanent lens mount that not only provides a solid F to EF mount adapter to the rear of the lens, but turns the lens 90 degrees to make the lens information more accessible. They also introduced PrimeCircle XT, a complete Zeiss ZF cinemod including de-clicked aperture, and PrimeCircle Ring Kits, a DIY lens mod that allows you to add a professional follow focus ring and standard 95mm front mount yourself. The Sony FS100 has been very popular for those wanting to own a large sensor video camera, but can’t afford the Sony F3 (plenty of you who read this site). RED Pushes Hybrid Imaging Forward with 'Smart' Canon Lens Mount

One of the reasons you hear so much about cameras on this site is not because cameras are all that important — which camera you shoot on is only a tiny part of the decision-making that goes into making a film — but because at no time in history has motion picture imaging changed so rapidly as right now. One of the ways it’s changing most significantly is in the convergence between still and motion imaging, and RED is at the forefront with their DSMCs. Their latest news is that they will soon start shipping their Canon mount, and it brings a lot of firsts to the table for a serious motion picture camera. (more…)
