We’re back with another entertaining discussion from Reddit’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) section, this time with French music producer and director Quentin Dupieux, whose recent films Rubber (shot on the Canon 5D Mark II) and Wrong have both entertained and polarized audiences. Under his pseudonym Mr. Oizo (from the French oiseau, meaning ‘bird’), Dupieux joins us from a computer at the Drafthouse Village in Austin, TX. Reddit’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) section has been developing into a popular outlet for creators to interface with an audience and create some buzz for their latest works. Intended to promote the release of his new film Spring Breakers, director Harmony Korine’s thread got rowdy yesterday with his replies to questions from fans and trolls alike. The words that come out of Korine’s mouth are usually equal parts enthralling, quixotic and perplexing, and this is only exacerbated by the brash and informal nature of an internet chatroom. 'Dark Horse' Reddit AMA with Ted Hope, Plus Why Film Looking Forward is DRM-Free

In the future of film and the internet — the marriage of which is certain, and ever-expanding — there are some things that are uncertain, such as how major studios and large productions will or won’t quickly adapt. Small startups and independent filmmakers, on the other hand, can be more in touch with the underground pulse that could become the mainstream heartbeat, and able to maneuver accordingly. Indie producer Ted Hope isn’t new to adapting to ‘what’s new,’ and is also a vocal indie-industry web presence. On his own blog and through a Reddit AMA he and few other cast/crew members held for the newly VHX-released Dark Horse, Ted has highlighted several key things up and coming filmmakers should be keeping in mind — including why DRM has to go. Ted Hope and Todd Solondz are both gigantic names in the indie world, and they are about to release the new film Dark Horse DRM-free on VHX online VOD. The film was just coming to theaters when Ted Hope had his talk at the Vimeo Festival back in June, and now the two of them (Hope and Solondz), are going to be participating in a Reddit Ask-Me-Anything on Wednesday in celebration of the VHX release. Community-based website Reddit has an ask reddit section wherein users can pose questions for other users (aka “redditors”). Redditor The.Quiet.Earth posed the question, “Could I destroy the entire Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus if I traveled back in time with a modern U.S. Marine infantry battalion or MEU?” In response, Prufrock451 (real name James Erwin) began writing a serialized story of this exact scenario. Madhouse Entertainment’s Adam Kolbrenner caught wind of the story after it hit the reddit front page, helped develop the story further, and sold the idea to Warner Brothers.
