One common trait among the different manufacturer’s offerings was the price: most of them are targeting the $750 price point, give or take a few dollars. And while this may make sense for a $2-3k DSLR, what about for a $800 camera like Canon T3i? Redrock Micro’s microEVF, announced at last year’s NAB but yet to ship, is now aiming to cut the price of other EVFs in half. Of course, they announced the microEVF a year ago, so we’ll see when it ships… (more…)

Redrock makes all manner of DSLR accessories, but their suite of follow focus products could be a breakthrough both feature- and price-wise when they make it to the market later this summer. When I visited the Redrock booth the futuristic iPhone controller was on its way down, but it wasn’t the fancy remote I was interested in: it was the $95 wired finger control that I wanted to get my hands on. No matter how good a 35mm adapter is, it is not going to offer you the low-light sensitivity of a true large sensor. Seeing this reasoning, Redrock has attempted to answer this HDSLR question: (more…)

There’s just one problem with using these solutions — you have to be directly behind the camera at eye level to use them. To remedy this problem, Redrock Micro is today showing off their microEVF, a self-powered electronic viewfinder that uses a DSLR’s HDMI output to feed the eyepiece image. It’s flexible in the way that a real viewfinder is — meaning, it tilts up and down, and generally allows you to use your DSLR much more like an actual videocamera. (more…)
