First Time at Tribeca: 'Alias Ruby Blade' Forgets Hollywood and Tells a Real Spy Love Story

Amidst a revolution to overthow invading oppressors, a beautiful young woman becomes a spy for the resistance under the moniker ‘Ruby Blade.’ While she sneaks in messages to the imprisoned, non-violent leader of said resistance, they begin a glorious love affair. And get this, it’s not starring Leo DiCaprio, it’s a true story! From chasing sharks to helicoptering heads-of-state, filmmakers Alexander Meillier and Tanya Ager Meillier are taking their very first feature documentary Alias Ruby Blade to Tribeca. Director Alex Meillier was kind enough to sit down with NFS to explain just how you go about telling an action-adventure love story…that really happened. Tribeca & Maker Studios Create 'Picture Show,' a YouTube Channel for 'Comedy Nerds & Movie Lovers'

Tribeca Enterprises and Maker Studios announced their collaboration to create a new YouTube channel featuring web series and short films called Picture Show. Comprised of Maker Studios’ YouTube talent, along with writers and stars from College Humor, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Tribeca’s own artists, Picture Show will “specialize in original content that blends the Maker sensibility with Tribeca’s cinematic focus.” With its official launch date of April 19th nearing, it might be worth your while to get acquainted with this comedy destination with a cinematic twist. Movies Are Too Long, That's Why You Should Enter Tribeca's Vine Contest and Make a 6 Second Film

A few months ago Twitter launched a new iOS app called Vine that is aiming to take a piece of the video sharing pie. Similar to the company’s 140 character limit, Vine is a video sharing service limited to videos that are no more than 6 seconds in length. There have been plenty of interesting applications for the service, and Tribeca is trying to take advantage of the storytelling possibilities by starting a contest that challenges you to come up with a short film in 6 seconds that has a beginning, middle, and end. 'Side by Side,' the Film vs. Digital Documentary Produced by Keanu Reeves, is Now on Netflix

While the debate is beginning to die down due to economics and advancements in digital cinema cameras, a documentary on the subject called Side by Side takes a look at the issue with some of the premiere directors and cinematographers. 'Man Child' is Awarded a Tribeca All Access Grant (Other Tribeca Programs Open for Applications)

It’s been a while since I’ve had an update on my feature Man Child, as I haven’t had any major news to share. Last week, however, the Tribeca Film Institute announced their 2012 All Access grantees, and I’m incredibly honored to be among them. In addition to sharing my own good news, I’d also like to raise awareness about a pair of Tribeca programs currently open for applications: the Tribeca New Media Fund and the Tribeca Film Fellow program.
