I am an Amsterdam based cinematographer and film director working on documentary films, feature films and cross media projects all around the world.
I was born in the Netherlands, I studied film direction and cinematography at Sint Lukas Institute In Brussels and I lived for 2 years in Latvia where I directed 2 documentaries. I have travelled to many places for my work and I have been shooting in inspiring and challenging environments of Papua New Guinea, Tibet, Taiwan, China, Congo, Kenya, Ukraine, Kamchatka, USA and the North Pole.
I love working on documentaries as I get a chance to meet amazing and inspiring people, capture their stories and show it to the audience leaving the footprint of my point of view on them. In documentary filmmaking, I search and discover the boundaries of the contemporary cinematography. In fiction, I challenge myself to take care of the authenticity for every moment I shoot.
My filming style is poetic and subtle. I love to find a balance of what an image shows and what it suggests. I create images both intuitively and conceptually. It makes the collaboration with the director and the sound designer central to the co-creation of the moment.
I admire the work of Christopher Doyle, Krzystof Kieslowski, Andrej Tarkovski, Artavazd Pelechian, Marcel Lozinki, Robert Bresson, Herz Frank, Joachim Trier, Kar-Wai Wong, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Pirjo Honkasala and Victor Kassakovsky for the endless inspiration they give me for my work as a cinematographer and as a film director.
I started my production company TAM FILMS to produce and sell my own films. As time passed, it has developed further into the company offering high end cinematography for documentary and feature films.
