Till this day I really regret not buying a Bolex D16 monochrome camera. I was close to getting one , I used to eye that thing on their website all the time. Now Its hard to even find one on eBay or Craigslist. Besides I'm no longer in the market for a camera that cost 3-5grand at the moment. I'm hoping I can get my hands on a monochrome camera some day.
I use a Sound Devices 702T and really love what their products can do. I used to have a Mix Pre-D. Thats another awesome tool. I would rather get this than a Zoom F4. I really feel more comfortable that this has analog limiters unlike the Zoom F4. I knew Sound Devices was in the works for new products because they have discontinued many of their 7 series models. I hope to see more from them soon.
My guess that Canon is going to give the 5D mark 4 a firmware upgrade is because it is rumored via (Peta Pixel) that Magic Lantern has been able to " hack " into the mark 4. Ofcourse after the announcement of the 5D mark iii and its 4k firmware probably doesn't make Canon comfortable. I'm hoping it will be a bit more than a C-Log upgrade. If so, I might just buy it.
I bought the app. The log mode is really grainy. ( I've only tried it indoors, but had plenty of light). The Natural settings is really nice. The App upgrade is worth it.
I have two of these units which are the Tascam DR10C. Which I ordered from an overseas uk website. They are great! I've used them with a Sanken COS 11d and Countyman B6 lav mics. They work great and used them many times. Now that they are able to sell them in the U.S. I recommend you guys looking into them. I'm currently comparing them to my JuicedLink little darling. I think so far JuicedLink wins in sound but sucks in design and ease of use.
