If you're shooting a doc or any manner of non-fiction material, small sensor cameras still have their place. I got my hands on a Canon XA10 at NAB and found it to be excellent, offering good low-light performance and a lot of customizable functions (not to mention XLR audio inputs, which are rare on a camera of such diminutive proportions). Its bigger brothers, the XF100 and XF105, offer higher bitrate recording on CF cards and more features to boot. Worth a look. Here's a video review from Philip Bloom:
