Hero3plusReady for a GoPro upgrade? Good, because GoPro announced today their newest family member, the Hero3+, which is smaller, sharper, and more powerful than before. With the more options at your disposal, like "SuperView" and low-light modes to help you maximize your image quality, as well as an array of handy accessories, the Hero3+ looks like an upgrade to an already great action camera. Continue on for all the details and a promo video to show you what it can do.

Like the GoPro Hero3, the Hero3+ comes in two models: the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition and GoPro Hero3+ Silver Edition. Both are 20% smaller (2.6oz) than the HERO3, have 25% longer-lasting batteries, as well as upgraded Wi-Fi capabilities, making it 4x faster than the Hero3 (Black Edition comes with Wi-Fi remote.)

As far as the image capture, the Black Edition shoots up to 4K resolution at 15fps, as well as 2.7K at 30fps, but also supports 1440p48, 1080p60, 960p100 and 720p120 2.7Kp30. The Silver Edition shoots up to 1080p at 60fps, as well as 960p60 and 720p120.

With the Hero3+, there are a couple of shooting modes to choose from: "SuperView" and Auto Low Light. SuperView allows you to "capture more of yourself and your surroundings in the shot" with the ultra-wide-angle lens, while Auto Low Light enhances performance by changing frame rates based on lighting conditions. The Black Edition gives you both options, while the Silver offers olnly Auto Low Light.

A couple of other improvements on both Black and Silver Editions include a sharper lens, increasing image sharpness by 33% and a 2x reduction in imaging artifacts, better audio, and, like I mentioned earlier, 30% longer battery life, though, the Silver Edition boasts a 3x reduction in imaging artifacts, but without a specified percentage of increased image sharpness (though it is increased.)

The GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition costs $399.99, while the Silver Edition costs $299.99.
