Wes Anderson SpoofWes Anderson, with all of his quirky, very overt style of set design and filmmaking techniques, is a prime target for parody. Now that the trailer to his latest film The Grand Budapest Hotel has been circulating throughout the interwebs, and with the rise in successful indie horror films, and since Halloween is right around the corner, Saturday Night Live took on satirizing his signature style with a bit of a sinister twist in a sketch from last night's show. Check out SNL's "The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders" after the jump:

Whether you're a fan or not, Anderson is indeed an iconic director, and like all iconic directors, he has a filmmaking style that, as time goes on, seems to border on a meta-parody of his own films. Which is why, I think, watching SNL's Wes Anderson parody video feels a bit like watching an actual Wes Anderson film.

They lampoon his signature camera movements, intricate set designs, costuming, overhead shots of hands/stationary/random objects, and, of course, yellow Futura font. The funny thing about this video, though, is after it was over, I kind of wished there was a Wes Anderson film about a dysfunctional family of homeowners that start receiving letters from a coterie of murderers.

As a light-hearted sign off to a busy week, check out SNL's parody "The Midnight Coterie Of Sinister Intruders" below:

Just for kicks, here is the trailer for Anderson's latest film The Grand Budapest Hotel:

What do you think of SNL's parody sketch? If you're a fan of Wes Anderson's work, which of his films/signatures is your favorite?
