At the time of the announcement of Letus' 1.33X Anamorphic Adapter for the GoPro, the AnamorphX-GP, there wasn't any footage to share in order to show you what you can expect, nor was there a release date. Now, Jared Abrams of Wide Open Camera has uploaded a couple of videos that give his first impressions of the adapter, as well test its capabilities, and Letus Direct says its estimated availability date is set for the end of the month. Continue on to get your first glimpse of some GoPro Hero 3+ footage through Letus' anamorphic eye.

We covered the announcement of the AnamorphX-GP earlier this month and shared all the necessarily specs, but in case you missed it, the adapter, which costs $199, has a 1.33x squeeze factor, converts the 16:9 aspect ratio into 2.39:1 aspect ratio without the need for cropping when the GoPro is in 1080 mode, and allows you to use the 16:9 images in SuperView mode as is without the need to de-squeezed them in post.

As you might expect, you're not going to get the beautiful oval bokeh that you would while shooting anamorphic, because -- well -- you're shooting with a GoPro, which isn't built to give shallow depth of field. But how well does the AnamorphX-GP produce those horizontal lens flares and characteristic "bulge"? Well, this video may not answer the lens flare question, unfortunately. However, though there aren't any horizontal flares to drool over, Abrams does demonstrate the wide aspect ratio. Abrams also mentions that he and his team worked with a prototype that had a slight edge blur on the camera right side. See for yourself in the test video below:

According to Letus Direct, the estimated availability date for the AnamorphX-GP is January 31st, though they're unavailable to preorder. However, you can sign up to be notified once they do become available here.
