vimeoIt has been a big week for independent films -- especially for independent, crowdfunded films. Not only is 10% of this year's Sundance slate made up of Kickstarter-funded films, but Vimeo made an announcement at the festival yesterday that they're launching a program specifically for films that have raised funds through crowdfunding platforms, offering $500K in support for marketing. Continue on for more info.

For the last three years, projects funded specifically by Kickstarter have had a pretty remarkable presence at Sundance. On this year's slate alone are 20 features, shorts, and documentaries that were funded by the crowdsourcing platform. (Kickstarter has shared profiles of each film, including their trailers, original Kickstarter campaigns, as well as their schedule in the festival. Check it out here!)

If you currently have, or are planning to have, your film crowdfunded, then Vimeo's announcement is pretty exciting. Many times, we focus all of their energy on getting enough funding to pay for the production and post, so when it comes time to promote and market their projects, the money has long since been dried up. Enter Vimeo.

According to their press release, Vimeo will be looking for films that have raised $10,000 or more on crowdfunding platforms, such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and Seed&Spark. The projects they select will receive free Vimeo PRO accounts, as well as access to their $500,000 Audience Development Fund in exchange for an exclusive digital premiere window on Vimeo On Demand.

If you qualify and want to be considered for Vimeo's $500,000 Audience Development Fund, send an email to crowdfunding@vimeo.com for more information.
