There are many stabilization options out there for action cameras and smartphones, several of which we've covered here. With all of them ranging in price, ergonomics, and technology, but the LUUV stabilizer, created by a team based out of Germany, not only has an interesting design, but can do some pretty cool things for all of you GoPro/smartphone filmmakers. Continue on to find out more about this stabilizer, currently running a campaign on Indiegogo.

Considering the splash, best described as Biblical in size, Freefly Systems made at last year's NAB with the MōVI, it makes sense that the action cam/smartphone stabilizers that came out afterward tried to capitalize on the popular 3-axis gimbal technology. The LUUV, though ergonomically different, keeps your footage steady using 3-axis stabilization.

There are a few things that the LUUV offers that are pretty interesting. First of all, the stabilizer was made using industrial 3D printers (which I think is cool). Second, you can rotate it 180˚ to get different perspectives -- being able to turn it upside-down is especially helpful if you're shooting extreme low angles for extreme sports, like skateboarding. Third, you can control panning with your fingertips, so operating the LUUV requires only one hand. (After seeing how this is done, I'm not so sure how helpful and effective it really is.)

Check out its Indiegogo campaign video to find out more about how it works:

Here are some more videos that show what the LUUV can capture:

And here's a training session that shows users how to operate it.

Thanks to the adapter mount, the LUUV can be used with virtually any action camera, smartphone, and compact digital cameras. Counterbalancing is also made simple with suggested counterbalance settings designed for the camera you're using. Its design is also geared for those in windy conditions -- or those trying to film at high speeds. All of the LUUV's mechanical components are hidden within its sturdy shell.

It weighs a little more than half a pound, is about 10 inches long, and is made of stainless steel and aluminum. So, I can imagine that it's strong, durable, transportable, and easy to store.

Now, the stabilizer is currently running a campaign on Indiegogo. As of right now, they've raised nearly 40% of their $50K goal, and still have about a month and a half to go. All of the $199 Super Early Bird rewards have already been snatched up, but you can get a LUUV at the special Indiegogo price of $299. The retail price is $349.

If you're interested in getting your own LUUV, or you just want more information, check out their campaign on Indiegogo.
