Austin Film FestivalIf you already polished your screenplay for the Academy Nicholl Fellowship deadline earlier this month, you may want to consider one more submission. The final deadline for the Austin Film Festival Screenplay & Teleplay Competition is May 31, 2014 at 11:59 pm PST. Why submit your screenplay to AFF? Read on to find out the benefits of submitting your script to the one film festival dedicated to screenwriting.

Entrants to the Austin Film Festival Screenplay & Teleplay Competition get discounts on badges to the festival and conference. Additionally, Second Rounders and above get even bigger discounts to attend AFF plus access to panels exclusive to their placement in the competition. Semifinalists and finalists will have their contact information included in the Producers Book, which AFF distributes to over 400 agents, managers and producers. Even better, finalists get a free Producers Badge to the conference, which is essentially an all-access pass to the panels, parties, and screenings.

AFF's conference is full of panels featuring actual, professional screenwriters talking about their craft, including tips, tricks, struggles and successes. As a panel moderator at AFF for the first time last year, I was really blown away by the candor of the screenwriters and the sheer depth and breadth of the panels. With 80 panels last year, there was quite literally something for every screenwriter.

Time is almost up to submit. Here are the fees and deadlines:

  • Screenplay late deadline: May 31, 2014, 11:59 pm PST: $50
  • Teleplay late deadline: May 31, 2014, 11:59 pm PST: $40

Before you submit your screenplay or teleplay to AFF, be sure to check out all the details of the competition, including the rules and the FAQ.
