'Foxcatcher', 'Whiplash' & 5 More Screenplays For Your Consideration

Sony has been a little distracted lately with a few things. Thankfully, Sony Pictures Classics has started 2015 with a resurgence of its awards campaigns by providing the screenplays to some of the most talked about films of 2014, including Foxcatcher, Whiplash, Mr. Turner, Still Alice, Love is Strange, Leviathan, and Wild Tales.

Before we get to the links to the screenplays, here are the trailers for each film:

This batch of scripts has a little something for everyone. If you're studying biopics, we have both Mr. Turner, the polished result of Mike Leigh's rehearsed improvisations with his talent, and Foxcatcher, a taut, psychological drama based on a stranger-than-fiction tragedy. I'm personally looking forward to reading Whiplash, one of my favorite films of 2014 and such an assured film weaving amazing music together with great performances from writer/director Damien Chazelle.

Quiet dramas like Still Alice can struggle to get made, so Glatzer & Westmoreland's adaptation is a great demonstration about how to write a character piece that really speaks to talent and brings out a must-see performance. Love is Strange is also another excellent example of a showcase for talent in a way we've never seen Alfred Molina and John Lithgow before. Looking at this group of screenplays as a whole, I'd say the one overarching lesson is that if screenwriters want to get their scripts made, they need to write parts that talent can't wait to play.
