First up, the update for DaVinci Resolve and Resolve Lite adds new CinemaDNG colorspace algorithms, improved Avid Media Composer 8.3 round tripping, new DNxHR 4K support, DPX 2.0 enhancements, and more:

  • CinemaDNG tone curve improvements
  • CinemaDNG soft clip option
  • DNxHR encode and decode support
  • Media Composer 8.3 round-trip support
  • AAF import now sets the timeline resolution
  • Invalidate clip cache option in Edit and Color page
  • Option to select RGB pixel order for DPX version 2.0
  • Flags and markers now supported in ColorTrace
  • Support for Red SDK 5.3
  • General performance and stability improvements

DNxHR was just recently added to Avid Media Composer, and it's sure to find it's way into plenty of workflows that are moving to 4K. DNxHD just supports resolutions up to 1080, whereas DNxHR is capable of resolutions from 2K all the way up to 4K.

As far as the CinemaDNG improvements, here is a bit from the press release:

DaVinci Resolve 11.2 includes improvements to CinemaDNG RAW image processing that makes working with files shot on Blackmagic digital film cameras look even better than before. Customers can take advantage of new colorspace transform enhancements when decoding RAW files for more realistic Rec. 709 and P3 colorspace images. New soft clip options are now available when converting high dynamic range CinemaDNG RAW images into Rec. 709 colorspace. That means customers will get dramatically better images when moving to reduced color spaces because colors are transformed using new algorithms designed to minimize clipping and provide amazing results.
