One of these high-res cameras could be a more consumer-oriented 4K model with a fixed lens. Photo Rumors recently had a reader send them a few photos from an event in China where Canon was showing off this interesting camera.

Here are the specs:

  • 1" CMOS Sensor (about half the size of APS-C)
  • 58mm filter
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Similar shape to the Canon 70D
  • External viewfinder
  • Canon 10X optical zoom 8.9-89mm f/2.8-5.6 4k video fixed lens (35mm Equi. 24-240mm)

There is no mention of cost yet, but again this has a pretty small sensor, and a fixed lens, so it's likely aimed at people shooting home movies. For that purpose it actually looks like it might do the job well.

It may be disappointing to see this concept first, but Canon is absolutely announcing cinema cameras with 4K at NAB. Whether we see this specific model or not is another question, but if you're looking at Sony or other manufacturers for a 4K offering, we'll know what Canon has up their sleeves in just a few weeks (potentially sooner if they feel like leaking before the show).
