Two days ago, Sony announced a mysterious new NLE called Catalyst Edit. Ryan Koo stopped by Sony's booth at NAB to investigate:

And here's an early photo of these new Catalyst post production tools:

While we were speculating that the new NLE would be specifically designed to handle the native media from Sony's cameras, it seems that it's going to be a much more open and versatile system. Here are the codecs and formats that Catalyst Edit will support:

Sony RAW 4K, Sony RAW 2K, XAVC Long, XAVC Intra, XAVC S, XDCAM 422, XDCAM SR (SStP), DNxHD, ProRes (OS X), AVC H.264/MPEG-4, AVC/AAC (MPEG-4), AVCHD, HDV, DV, XDCAM MPEG IMX, JPEG, PNG, WAV, and MP3.

There's not a whole lot of other information out there yet about this new NLE from Sony, but you can sign up to be notified when they become available over on their website. Catalyst Prepare and Browse, on the other hand, are already available, and the former can be purchased for $199 on Sony's site.
