DJI Unveils New Phantom 3 4K & Black Edition of Inspire 1
DJI has just introduced two new products at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (or CES).
While the first is just a black paint job for the Inspire 1, the other is a brand new product altogether. The Phantom 3 4K is a new addition to the DJI line, which features 2.4GHz WiFi instead of Lightbridge like the Phantom 3 Professional. This means that range has been cut down from a max of a few miles with Lightbridge to only 3900'. How much difference this will be in practice remains to be seen, but certainly WiFi has its share of issues, and any drone's range is cut down once you no longer have line of sight. The other advantage of Lightbridge is an HD preview, which is now limited to 480p on the WiFi-only version.
You will be saving some money because of this change, however. The new Phantom 3 4K is just $1,000, $200 less than the Phantom 3 Professional which runs for $1,200. It's not a huge price difference, but for someone who doesn't need a ton of range, it's a pretty impressive drone for $1K.
We'll see if we get any price drops for their other products since the Phantom 3 4K and Phantom 3 Advanced are now the same price, but in the meantime, here are the specs:

The Wi-Fi extender as well as the included handheld controller (transmitter) feature a line-of-sight range of up to 3937'.
As for the Inspire 1, not much has changed except the color:
It's unclear when both of these will be available, but it will likely be relatively soon.
