While the base RED EPIC Brain costs somewhere between $25-50K it’s always been the accessories that have added to up to create a package costing in the $70-90K range.

With the TEODORED, Spanish company Cinemartin hopes to consolidate many of your accessories into a single tool with many functions.  To save on having to purchase the SSD module and additional SSDs, the TEODORED has an internal 512GB SSD for recording, and also allows recording to USB drives and SDXC drives.  To save on an onboard monitor, you can use the onboard screen while operating the camera.

It also comes with 1Gb/s ethernet, wifi and bluetooth for live streaming.  In addition, by attaching a mouse and keyboard you can edit the footage on-board.  They claim to be able to be powered via Lemo pin and to draw only 19W, but the demo images have a power cable running out of frame, so that remains to be seen.  Either way, that is a whole lot of functionality to work into a $2000 price point.

For certain applications (such as a multi-camera live RED setup), this could be a great cost saver, but I personally would be worried about writing to an unknown low-cost SSD as my master file.  RED SSDs might cost a pretty penny, but in general they have proven to provide a level of reliability that is worth the cost, and I’d be reluctant to look to my master recording drive as a place to save on costs.

Has anyone had a chance to use one yet?  Anybody think this is the perfect piece of kit for their workflow?
