From Fellini's 8 1/2 to Fujita's Lady Snowblood, Quentin Tarantino has paid homage to a plethora of different films and TV shows in his own work. I imagine watching one of his films is kind of like walking through the video store where he used to work, Video Archives in Manhattan Beach, just title after title of timeless and obscure pieces of cinema.

Tarantino has made his favorite and most influential films such a part of his own work that his penchant for referencing them has become, on its own, a source of reference for other filmmakers. The unique thing about Tarantino is that his films have not only reached incredible heights of popularity, but his own persona as well. Homages to his films, including Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, have appeared in one of the most famous TV shows in the country, The Simpsons, and have done so numerous times, but the show has also referenced the director himself in the episode "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious." And if you know anything about The Simpsons (and I totally do, because I grew up in Springfield, OR, one of the many Springfields that is totally convinced The Simpsons' Springfield is based on our Springfield), you know that to be drawn in true Simpson cartoon form means to be immortalized forever.
