Late yesterday, there was another great disturbance in the Force when Lucasfilm officially announced that the company and Colin Trevorrow had decided to go their separate ways and Trevorrow would no longer be the director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Here's the official statement from Lucasfilm:

Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.

Trevorrow was officially announced as the director of Episode IX back in August 2015 after the overwhelming success of Jurassic World, the writer-director's follow-up gig to his indie breakout Safety Not Guaranteed. Trevorrow's most recent film, The Book of Henry, released earlier this year, however, was met with dismal reviews and poor returns at the box office, causing some industry watchers to speculate that Lucasfilm may look for another director to trust with the ninth installment of the saga.

Following Lucasfilm's firing of Phil Lord & Christopher Miller from the Han Solo standalone film back in June and replacing them with Ron Howard, holding on to the director's chair for a Star Wars film is becoming almost as difficult as using a proton torpedo to blow up the Death Star. I guess the Force was strong with Rian Johnson. Until we hear who is taking the reins of Episode IX, here's the latest trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to return balance to the Force:
