Look, we get it. Of course, EF mount makes the most sense for the new EVA1 from Panasonic. There are probably 100 million lenses on earth in EF mount, while there are probably less than 100,000 in PL mount. If you are a massive company releasing a camera designed for a large audience, it makes sense that you would go for the more common mount. It's also a plus due to the built-in lens data that works with popular lenses like the Sigma Cine Zooms to give you a whole package of metadata that used to only be available to the big shows.

It would've been nice to have the camera in MFT mount, to match the GH5 and offer adapters to EF and PL, but of course, that would've meant sacrificing data. Every design has compromises. Thankfully, Wooden Camera has already come to the rescue, only a few weeks after the EVA1 launch, with a PL adapter for the EVA1 as part of its pro accessory line for the camera.

The EVA1 itself weighs in at a mere 2.6lbs, making it ideal for gimbal work, and the adapter adds only .6lbs to that equation, bringing the total of body and adapter to 3.2lbs. It's definitely something to consider when choosing a lens package for a gimbal-heavy show, but not likely to be the accessory that breaks the gimbals motor. Since the EF mount is integral to the EVA1 body, you have to remove the current body, and you can have a technician do it for you for a small fee or simply do it yourself, as the adapter comes with all necessary screws and shims.

Removing your lens mount is absolutely going to void your warranty, though, so this isn't something to be done lightly. If you break the camera doing this, don't expect that you can send it to Panasonic for repair the way you might if your iris wheel stopped working three days after purchase. The good folks at Newshooter talked to Mitch Gross at Panasonic and received word that the warranty will still cover non-lens mount related issues even if you send it in with the mount swapped. This sort of modification is mostly easy but is definitely intended for those comfortable tweaking their camera to be rigged the way they want it.
