You may be surprised to learn that, despite our name, No Film School is a big champion of film school and the many worthwhile opportunities and experiences it can offer. Currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, it appears Nikon, with its new scholarship offering $10,000 to 10 students majoring in the visual arts, is as well.

Open to undergraduate and graduate students in North America who have finished their freshman year of college (or academic equivalent), the Nikon Storytellers Scholarship is an encouraging development, not the least due to its support of young storytellers who are more often than not financially strapped for cash and in need of further creative guidance. You won't have to wait long for it to go into effect either: the scholarships will be for use in the 2018-2019 academic school year.

Eligibility requirements
- You must be an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited, non-profit college/university or vocational/technical school in the United States or Canada.
- You must complete your freshman year of college or academic equivalent before Fall 2018.
- You must be majoring in visual arts, fine arts, journalism, film, photography, or multimedia/content creation.
- You must have a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average at time of application.
You will need to provide a recommendation from a professor, teacher or academic advisor. If you are selected as a semi-finalist, you will be asked to provide a photo portfolio or video submission, description of photo/video submission and copy of your academic transcript.
Key deadlines
- March 1, 2018: Application deadline for all students
- March 12, 2018: Semi-finalist applications selected
- March 30, 2018: Application deadline for semi-finalists
- June 2018: 10 scholarships recipients selected
