While the ARRI Alexa line remains the "premiere" platform for capturing digital images, and gets most of the press with the rollout of the Alexa LF, it's important not to forget the Amira. While it was primarily intended for doc and other non-fiction uses, it has been surprisingly also popular with some indie projects who appreciate its lightweight 9lb body size, internal 3D LUT support, and full 4K UHD capture.  Now you can get your hands on all that and RAW recording as well.

ARRI Amira

With the purchae of an additional license, ARRIRAW 2.8K footage can now be captured to the internal CFast 2.0 cards supported by the Amira. RAW recording gives users more flexibility in post-production processing and is frequently useful on run and gun and documentary style projects where the chaos of active production can leave less time for carefully crafting the image as you go.  Of course, in the end, ProRes and DNx capture will remain popular with these cameras since they come with smaller file sizes, but when comparing ProRes 4K to ARRIRAW 2.8K, some might consider bumping up to the RAW to be well worth it for the extra room to tweak that is available in post.
