When Ryan Koo first hired me here at No Film School, I was tasked with building a podcast that would be an essential educational resource for filmmakers of all kinds. We started with some interviews back at Sundance in 2016, released them every week over the next month or so, and gained a little bit of listenership.

As soon as we returned from Park City, we got the wheels turning on a new sort of show, and with the help of Liz Nord developed a weekly news series that was designed to simultaneously catch up filmmakers who were too busy to pay attention to the week’s big indie film stories, notify aspiring directors of festival and grant deadlines, and highlight some big gear and theatrical releases.

As the show continued to develop, we added on new sections and new voices. Ask No Film School got us connected with our community, Weekly Words of Wisdom gave us a platform to highlight some of our favorite quotes from interviews we did for the site. Charles Haine came on for gear news, Emily Buder waxed poetically and then moved on to a beautiful afterlife, Erik Luers finally found a few friends, and Indie Film Weekly amassed a genuinely dedicated audience whose appreciation for the source was sometimes overwhelming.

So it is with a heavy heart that today I am announcing Indie Film Weekly will be entering an indefinite hiatus in 2019. We will have one final show airing Thursday, January 9, with the whole gang back together for the last time. There is a distinct possibility that the show will return in some form later on, but for now, it’s time to say goodbye.

The No Film School Podcast will continue running interview podcasts every week and will return in January with a series of Best of Episodes from 2018 leading to our Sundance coverage.

And with that, all I really have to say after 138 episodes of these shows is thank you to everyone who listened, stuck with us as we figured out the format, and contributed to our 2-million-plus plays over the last couple of years. It is my sincere hope that you learned something from our program. I know I sure did.

We’ll see you in January. Happy holidays.
