Well, it’s a big day for Blackmagic Design fans. Not only do we get the news that the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is finally getting Blackmagic RAW, but we also - you know - get an entirely new camera to faun over several weeks before the big headlines of NAB.

Blackmagic has officially unveiled its new URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, the second-generation for its popular URSA Mini Pro featuring fully redesigned electronics, a new Super 35mm 4.6k image sensor (with 15 stops of dynamic range), and support to shoot up to 300fps. Wow.

Let’s take a look at this new URSA Mini Pro G2 and all its bells and whistles below.

The Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2

URSA Mini Pro G2

When the original Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro was released, we were fans. It was a solid update from the URSA as well as a great A-cam, B-cam partner with the highly affordable BMPCC 4K as well. Yet, it looks like BMD has outdone itself with this new G2 which includes better electronics, a better sensor, higher frame rates and support for Blackmagic RAW.

“The original URSA Mini Pro has been an extremely successful and very popular camera. Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 is exciting because it gives customers second generation electronics and an even higher performance image sensor so they can shoot at extremely high frame rates for crystal clear slow motion images. URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 is powerful enough to be used on high end feature films and television shows, versatile enough to be used for broadcast news and live multi camera event production, and affordable enough for indie filmmakers and even students! It’s like getting 3 cameras in one!”  - Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design

The new Super 35mm 4.6K image sensor captures up to 4608 x 2592 pixels with 15 stops of latitude at up to 3200 ISO and can record 4.6K images at up to 120fps (windowed 4K DCI at up to 150fps and windowed 1080HD at up to 300fps).

The G2 also sees the addition of a new USB-C expansion port for recording directly to external disks as well as next-gen BMD Generation 4 Color Science.
