First reported just over a month ago, the long rumored (and now confirmed) collaboration between Fujifilm and Panasonic has dropped some more info about this “8K Organic Sensor” behemoth. Let’s take a look...

The Panasonic 8K Organic Sensor

Panasonic 8K

While we already knew that this new Panasonic was reportedly going to be capable of 8K video recording at 60fps, L-rumors (via 43-rumors) has more exciting news including a global shutter and some insights into its “high sensitivity” and “wide dynamic."

  • Global Shutter (exposes all pixels at the same time and read the data all at once). This will at last kill the distortion caused by rolling shutters.

  • 88 at 60fps

  • Panasonic said the sensor has “high sensitivity” and “wide dynamic range” but did not share exact numbers

  • It has a step less electronic ND filter (Panasonic said it does NOT change color balance when using it)

  • Sensor can switch between “high-sensitivity” mode and “high-saturation” mode

Take some of the vaguer quotes for what you will as more concrete information will certainly be available soon. With more 8K rumors continuing to swirl (most notably in regards to Sony 8K video camera in 2019), what this new “8K revolution” really means for filmmakers is to be determine.
