From June 24 to July 29, 2019, LaCie is partnering with Ryan Connolly of Film Riot for their Action Scene Challenge contest.

They invite filmmakers to produce and submit 60-second high-octane action shorts that showcase their directing prowess and high levels of technical skill. It should be a full story, with a hook, rising action, and a conclusion. (This might be a good time to remind yourself why story and character matter in action sequences.)

The entries must be posted on Instagram with the required tags and hashtags.

You can also submit behind-the-scenes footage in a separate prize category. This also must be posted on Instagram and tagged.

The Prizes

The grand-prize winner will win the following gear:

  • Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
  • Syrp Genie II 3-Axis Kit
  • Atmos Ninja V5 Recording Monitor
  • LaCie DJI Copilot
  • DJI Mavic2 Pro
  • Rode NTG-3 Recording Bundle
  • LaCie 2big Dock 20TB

Bmpcc

There will also be two runner-up prize packages and a behind-the-scenes category winner.

The Judging

Action sequences will be judged based on four criteria: cinematography, editing/post-production, sound design, and innovation/creativity.

Before you get started, check out some of our resources to make sure your work is the best it can be. For instance, maybe you need to create visual effects on a small budget. You should also know what camera moves work best for action sequences. We've also got tips for shooting great action shots and pointers on shooting fight scenes.

The Rules

Entrants must be members of LaCie's COLLECTIVE. The short films must be no longer than 60 seconds and also must include one of the lines of dialogue provided in the COLLECTIVE's entry packet. And make sure that any music or content you used is licensed because copyright violations will result in disqualification.

For the full rules and submission information, visit the COLLECTIVE.

Get out, create your action sequence, and make sure it's submitted via Instagram before 11:59 p.m. PST on July 29, 2019. The winner will be announced on August 9th.
