It's almost the end of the year—it's self-reflection time, friends! Don't worry, we're all doing it: me, you probably, and even Barack Obama, the former Cinephile in Chief. As he has done for the past several years, the 44th President of the United States has put out his annual list of books, music, and movies that he "found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved," and his list is chock full of Hollywood hits, as well as indie favorites.

Here are all 15 titles he named this year:

  • Annihilation, dir. Alex Garland
  • Black Panther, dir. Ryan Coogler
  • BlacKkKlansman, dir. Spike Lee
  • Blindspotting, dir. Carlos López Estrada
  • Burning, dir. Lee Chang-dong
  • The Death of Stalin, dir. Armando Iannucci
  • Eighth Grade, dir. Bo Burnham
  • If Beale Street Could Talk, dir. Barry Jenkins
  • Leave No Trace, dir. Debra Granik
  • Minding the Gap, dir. Bing Liu
  • The Rider, dir. Chloé Zhao
  • Roma, dir. Alfonso Cuarón
  • Shoplifters, dir. Hirokazu Kore-eda
  • Support the Girls, dir. Andrew Bujalski
  • Won’t You Be My Neighbor, dir. Morgan Neville

Shoplifters'Shoplifters' (2018)

Regardless of where you stand politically, I think we can all agree that Obama's list is full of bangers, from superhero tentpoles like Black Panther to unique coming-of-age stories like Eighth Grade. Personally, I appreciate seeing a healthy amount of international films, like Shoplifters and Burning, as well as some great docs, like the film whose trailer I can't watch without drowning in a puddle of my own tears, Won't You Be My Neighbor.

If you want to see which books and songs made it onto his year-end list, head on over to his Facebook post.

Which of Obama's favorite films of 2018 make it on your own list? Let us know down in the comments!
