Creative Assembly Required

Writers, actors, directors... Lend me your ears!

I'm in a writer/director in a creative sticky patch. I recently had 2 short scripts progress into the latter stages of Screencraft's Short
Screenplay comp. Very encouraging for me, as I'm an autodidact in all things filmmaker.

The trouble I have now... What next? I was incredibly encouraged by this acknowledgement, but I feel the scripts I've written aren't the grand scale of storytelling I want to deliver. I live in Toronto and really want something that incorporates the city in all it's metropolitan grittiness.

The trouble is, I spread myself too thin. I'm writing short scripts, prepping 3 feature length scripts (writing one, with the intention to submit to The Blacklist), writing a graphic novel, and rewriting a TV pilot I will be submitting to a comp. I'm really not sure which avenue to pour all my effort into? I have actors that want to work with me and they like my material. As do various artists that like what I've written (so far) of the graphic novel.

I love all equally, it's just getting that focus and maintaining it throughout, without losing sight of the other endeavors, and managing a 9-5.

So anyone who has been in a similar position, please, sound off in the comments below. Hopefully we can all help each other.

Congrats and continued success, Tom!

I would say go grab a good camera for taking pics and bus around the city and take lots of pics until you find a pic that inspires you then go back to your works in progress and apply it to the one that jumps out at you most...

good luck with the comps!
