Focusing while on a Movi/Ronin

Hey guys,

I plan on buying a DJI Ronin in the next few weeks to use with DSLRs going forward. My main concern is focusing. I know the wireless follow focus kits run in the thousands and are out of budget for me right now.
What are some other options I have, maybe some tips on this?
Thanks

Some cameras ( like the GH4 ) have WiFi camera control that includes focus. Sure there may be a bit of lag, but you just have to find a way to work with it.

Rent. That's what a focus puller is for, or just stay wide.

I almost got a Ronin, but this week I saw TurboAce has their new AllSteady-6 on Kickstarter. At under $1100, I jumped on it

Killer price-point, and you can add a single user electric follow focus for about $700.

Hi, I work as a Ronin Technician for a Hire House company based in London called Indie Film Hire, and recently working on a music promo I had to rig a Canon C100 with the Ronin, being as I was shooting the promo too, I had to work around the fact that I could not pull focus, so what I did was using the built in ND's I took 4 stops off and then shot at F.11 and the Images were fantastic.
However I believe there is an upgrade for a Canon C100 to allow continuos auto focus which I would also like to try.

I recently used the Dual-Pixel Auto Focus upgrade on a C100. It is relatively fast, but focusses on the center only (AFAIK).
Quite someful sometimes.
When not I used the autofocus to focus and then disble the autofocus: much more convenient than pulling focus on the lens while holding a gimbal.

The testvideo I made was very simple: I went to an Open Coffee to test both the upright configuation and the C100's auto-focus:

(Not very spectacular, I know :-p )

What's your camera and lens combination?
Our MOZA has a thumb controller allowing wireless focus and record.
Take a look. www.gudsen.com

Anyone tried the c100 mk II on the ronin or movi? I hear the auto focus is vastly improved (not just center of frame)

Just thought I'd bump this thread and ask if anyone has any experience with non-wireless focus pulling options. If you had a follow focus unit with a whip attached (and a focus puller running along side the Ronin operator) would that throw off the Ronin's balance? Or would it be A-OK? Anyone tried something like that?
