GH2 vs. G6 vs. GH3

I'm looking to get a used mirrorless camera for video production. I do documentaries, weddings, and even how-to videos.

I have narrowed my camera search down to a Panasonic GH2 and a Panasonic G6. Which of the two would you think is better for video and why?

How much of a gain would saving up more and buying a GH3 be?

If you can afford it I would get the GH3 because the accessories are the same between the GH3 and GH4 camera, the battery lasts 3+ hours on the GH3 vs 1.5 hours for the GH2/G6 cameras, the GH3 body is weather resistant so you can shoot in the rain with a weather-proof lens, the GH3 has a headphone jack so you can monitor your audio while shooting, etc...

Right now a GH3 body costs about $600 US, so you get a lot of bang at this price.

When do you think the GH3 will be about $300 - 400 used?

The GH3 only dropped to $600 US very recently, so my guess is that you won't see used GH3 cameras at the $300 - 400 price range until the GH5 has been out for at least 3 months. So roughly about one year from now.

The GH5 will come out priced at $1,800 next summer, the GH4 will drop down to $1,000, and the GH3 will probably be discontinued, but will sell used in the $300 - 400 range. ( this is what happened to the GH2 when the GH4 came out )

Lewis,

I have been using my two GH3s for the past two years shooting very similar videos to those you described (lots of weddings, short docs, narrative, and business content) and they have served me incredibly well. It really is a great camera for the price, especially for our purposes. I didn't bother with the GH4 because I have no use for 4K at the moment, at least for that price.

Unfortunately I am giving up freelancing next month and am trying to sell my GH3 gear, obviously at a much better price than you would get from any major camera store. I have a fairly well built kit that I would be willing to sell, some of the highlights:

2x GH3 bodies
4x Batteries + 1x Battery Grip
Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 and Voigtlander 10.5mm f/0.95
Panasonic 45-200mm f/4-5.6
Panasonic Lumix G 14mm f/2.5 ASPH Lens

Let me know if you want to chat about it. It's a really great kit, and I'd love for it to go to someone who is going to get a lot of use out of it.
